Background Story
Hemam was founded by Mr. Thorsten Schweizer. Thorsten is a German citizen, living in Dubai for the past 10 years. His son was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3 years and he was rejected from 8 mainstream schools in Dubai. He travelled about 3.500km each month to bring his son to different therapy centres across Dubai. Even with speech & language, occupational and applied behaviour analysis (ABA) therapy his son was not accepted at a mainstream school in Dubai. Medications or the presence of his therapist during the mainstream school assessments also did not help.
After 2 years at a special need school his son rather adopted the bad behaviour of other students than progressing further.
At the age of 6 years his son was finally accepted at a mainstream school with an integrated therapy centre. Motivated by his own experience Thorsten decided to support the concept of an integrated therapy centre inside mainstream schools by founding the HEMAM Learning Support Center. The HEMAM Learning Support Center wants to integrate children with autism and learning difficulties most efficiently and on the highest educational standards to mainstream schools in Dubai.
